Tigers Players Post Strong Showing on The Gridiron in 2022

This fall several tigers left the diamond to exert their strength on the grid iron. Leading the headlines was Sam Wright and the Weddington Warriors, who advanced all the way to the union county middle school championship. In the end the Warriors were outlasted in their bid for the crown in a close game by the Monroe Hawks. Wright led a stout Weddington defense from his outside linebacker position, applying pressure and making big plays all year. He also spent time on the offensive side of the ball at wide out.

Alex Thomas and Khy’lieb Rodriguez would bring fire and ice to the Community House Middle School offense. The dynamic duo combined for over 15 touchdowns between them with Rodriguez going into double-digits for the season. Both standouts also contributed on defense and special teams and have continued to show their athleticism in 7 on 7 competition this winter

Collin Keith and Kaiden Lawrence contributed heavily to a furious late season push for Mint Hill who ended the season on a 4-game winning streak. Keith showed his versatility by playing multiple positions including defensive end, safety, and special teams. Lawrence also saw time on both sides of the ball, playing wide receiver and free safety. Recording four interceptions for the defense and scoring three touchdowns while on offense. He was also recognized as the team’s top wide receiver during awards day.

Micah Crenshaw also contributed mightly to a late season run at Metrolina the team finished with 6 wins against just two losses. The resilient bunch won each of its final six games. Crenshaw helped lead the way playing a multitude of positions, including wide receiver, cornerback,  quarterback while also returning punts on special teams. He threw 4 touchdown passes and only allowed two catches all year at corner.

John Gargano wasted no time making  Christ The King's varsity football team in just the eighth grade. He gained valuable experience, learning his trade at running back and linebacker as his team went on a deep run in the playoffs posting the best season in school history. Gargano was recognized by the coaching staff for his work ethic and his willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team get ready to play on Friday nights. A great start to a bright future for Gargano.

Giovanni Luisa earned starting positions at both running bank and linebacker at JM Robinson Middle School before his promising campaign was ended prematurely by injury after the first game. Luisa remained with the team all year as he recovered showing his leadership and perseverance through the setback. The injury has healed nicely and he has looked impressive in baseball workouts this winter.
